Apex Legends Ranked armor: an EVO upgrade is not a full shield
In Ranked, an EVO upgrade increases your armor tier, but EA says the new armor does not immediately start at full HP. Read the actual shield charge before pushing. A better tier and a fully charged shield are separate advantages.

Check the bars after the upgrade
EA describes regeneration after the armor upgrade, interrupted by incoming damage or an armor change. Look at the filled shield bars rather than treating the tier announcement as confirmation of a complete refill. If you are still under fire, account for that interruption before planning your next engagement.
Read the Shield Core's charge
A Shield Core carries remaining shield charge. EA also explains that a dropped core's color reflects its current charge rather than proving the original owner's Legend Level. Inspect the actual value offered by a swap. A core from a strong opponent is not automatically a full replacement for your own shield.
Make the next move from the resulting state
For example, your armor upgrades during a fight and you immediately follow a teammate into another exposed angle. Before moving, check your current charge and the cover available for recovery. The useful decision is whether your present shield can support that move, not whether the previous upgrade looked impressive. Use the mode-specific rules when comparing a Ranked clip with another playlist.
