Brawl Stars upgrades: enough Power Points but not enough Coins
Power Points alone do not pay for a Brawler upgrade. Supercell's currency guide describes upgrades as using Power Points together with Coins. When the button is unavailable, compare both balances with the costs shown for that Brawler before looking for another unlock.

Compare each required currency separately
Open the selected Brawler's upgrade screen and read both costs. Compare the Coin requirement with your Coin balance, then do the same for Power Points. A surplus of one resource does not automatically cover a shortage of the other.
Use the actual in-game values instead of a cost table copied from a different update. If one balance is short, record that resource as the constraint. This keeps you from collecting more of something you already have enough of.
Separate an upgrade decision from an unlock decision
Coins and Power Points serve the upgrade described in Supercell's guide. Credits are associated with unlocking Brawlers. Having progress toward another character does not establish that you can afford to strengthen the one already selected.
Suppose a player has sufficient Power Points, is short on Coins and is also close to a character unlock. The upgrade problem remains the Coin shortfall. Treat the unlock as a separate decision rather than assuming every progression reward feeds the same balance.
Choose which upgrade you actually want next
If several Brawlers compete for your resources, choose a specific next use before upgrading whichever button happens to light up. Consider the modes you intend to play and which character you can already use effectively.
Check the current free reward opportunities shown in your game, then reassess the shortfall. This guide does not require a purchase, promise a reward schedule or rank a Brawler as the best investment for every account.
When your plan breaks
| What happens | What to change |
|---|---|
| I have plenty of Power Points but cannot upgrade | Read the Coin cost too; both upgrade requirements must be met. |
| My character unlock progress is high | That does not pay the selected Brawler's Coin and Power Point upgrade costs. |
| A cost table disagrees with my screen | Use the current in-game cost for that Brawler and level. |
| I keep running out after upgrading several characters | Choose the next intended upgrade and compare its full cost before distributing resources further. |
Quick answers
Can extra Power Points replace missing Coins?
The ordinary upgrade uses both resources. Check each displayed requirement separately.
Does this mean I need to buy Coins?
No purchase is required by this checklist. Check current rewards and whether the upgrade is your next priority before deciding how to proceed.
