Dragon's Dogma 2 main pawn missing: revive or return through a riftstone?
A pawn lying immobile can still be revived by approaching and helping it. A main pawn that has become forfeit needs a different step: touch a riftstone to return it to your side. Check which state you are facing before trying to hire a replacement.

Look for the pawn before leaving the area
Capcom's manual distinguishes a pawn at zero Health, lying immobile, from one removed from the party. An immobile pawn can be helped by approaching and touching it. Leaving that state unresolved for too long can cause forfeiture. Decide whether you can reach the pawn while keeping the rest of the party under control.
Use a riftstone for a forfeit main pawn
If the main pawn is already forfeit, the manual directs you to touch a riftstone to restore it. Searching the original fall location is then a different task from the documented recovery. For example, if your main pawn has vanished after an unresolved defeat, first check the party state and the nearest available riftstone.
Restore the main pawn before diagnosing hiring
Capcom also states that you cannot enter covenants with other pawns while your main pawn is forfeit. Return the main pawn first, then inspect any remaining hiring problem. Keep this main-pawn instruction separate from assumptions about automatically restoring a particular hired support pawn; the cited recovery rule specifically names your main pawn.
When your plan breaks
| What happens | What to change |
|---|---|
| The pawn is still lying nearby | Check the revival interaction instead of treating it as already removed. |
| The main pawn has been removed from the party | Check forfeiture and use the documented riftstone recovery. |
| I cannot hire while the main pawn is missing | Restore the forfeit main pawn before investigating a separate covenant issue. |
Quick answers
What information helps identify the right recovery step?
Whether the pawn remains physically immobile nearby and whether your main pawn is currently listed as forfeit.
Should I follow a fixed controller button on PC?
Use your platform's interaction prompt. The state distinction is the important part of this checklist.
