Euro Truck Simulator 2 resting: find the trigger before waiting in menus
Resting is an in-game action at a suitable stopping place, not simply time spent on the home screen. Look for a bed-marked location and the parking prompt. Once the game recognizes the resting spot, follow the engine and rest instructions shown by your current controls.
Reviewed 2026-10-15 · Standard single-player resting; fatigue settings, key bindings, map locations and mods can differ
Choose a recognized resting location
Use the map's bed-marked parking or resting locations as your starting point. Stopping at an arbitrary roadside position is not the same as entering the game's recognized rest trigger.
Move the truck into a usable position and watch for the prompt. If it does not appear, check the location and parking position before changing several gameplay settings. The visible prompt is a better test than the appearance of nearby buildings.
Follow the engine and interaction prompts
The cited player explanation describes parking, turning off the engine when prompted, and using Enter to rest. Treat that as a standard default example; follow your displayed action if the binding differs.
For example, a player reaches a rest area, stays in a menu and expects the stop to count. Return to the driving interface, confirm the recognized position and perform the rest interaction. Opening the menu is not a substitute for completing it.
Plan around game time and your fatigue setting
Resting advances game time. Check the job's timing and your route before using it simply to make time pass. A wait can serve a purpose while still changing the remaining delivery window.
If fatigue warnings or timing differ from a guide, inspect the fatigue-simulation setting and installed mods. Do not import a mod's shortened rest duration into an ordinary profile. This guide intentionally avoids one universal driving or sleep-hour schedule.
When your plan breaks
| What happens | What to change |
|---|---|
| No rest interaction appears where I parked | Check the recognized rest location and truck position rather than assuming any parking space works. |
| I waited in a menu but did not complete a rest | Use the in-world rest interaction after the required prompt. |
| The documented Enter key does not work on my profile | Read the current prompt and control binding. |
| Fatigue behaves differently from another player's guide | Compare the fatigue setting, mods and game setup before applying their schedule. |
Quick answers
Does parking anywhere count as resting?
Use a recognized rest location and confirm the interaction prompt.
Is waiting on the home screen the same as a rest action?
No. Complete the in-game action; do not use real elapsed menu time as proof of a rest.

The basic trigger sequence comes from a first-hand Steam player explanation, originally posted in 2016. It is used for the stable workflow, not as proof of current key bindings or exact rest durations; check the current UI. No delivery or fatigue test was run for this page.
