Hearts of Iron IV supply: hub capacity is not the same as frontline delivery

A hub showing available capacity does not prove that all of it reaches a distant division. Check the route supplying the hub, its coverage toward the front and the units competing for that delivery. Upgrading one part of the chain can leave the actual limiting part unchanged.

Reviewed 2026-10-15 · The railway-and-hub supply system; exact values, ports and modded rules need their own checks

Locate the division's supply path

Open the supply view and inspect the affected area and relevant hub. Separate an upstream connection issue from the distance and terrain between the hub and troops. The cited player discussion illustrates why a nominal hub capacity alone does not settle the division's delivered supply.

Inspect range and available motorization

Motorization can improve delivery coverage, but it is not unlimited reach. Check the hub's current setting and the vehicles available to support it. For example, a front advances beyond comfortable hub coverage while the railway behind it remains intact. More capacity on that railway does not automatically put distant troops inside the same delivery conditions.

Compare demand before expanding again

Inspect how many formations are drawing supply in the area and what the current tooltips identify as the shortage. Consider whether the front needs a different delivery position or less concentrated demand before committing industry to another project. Change one relevant constraint, let the state update and inspect the result. Do not use an old port or railway formula as a substitute for your current map data.

Quick answers

What should I record before changing construction?

The affected division, hub, route, coverage and shortage tooltip, so the next change addresses an identified constraint.

Should I copy a fixed supply formula from this page?

This checklist uses the current map and tooltips. It deliberately does not prescribe old numerical port or rail formulas.

Sources & version notes

The capacity-versus-delivery distinction comes from original player discussions of the hub system. The advancing-front example is illustrative. Their disputed numerical formulas and universal division advice are not adopted.
