Monster Hunter Wilds Focus Mode: aim at a wound, then check what the strike changed
Focus Mode helps aim attacks or guards and highlights wounds. A weapon's Focus Strike is a separate special attack that exploits those targets. Capcom describes a successful wound strike as destroying the wound and making the monster flinch, so inspect the new state before repeating the same plan.

Use the highlight to identify the target
Capcom's overview explains Focus Mode as a way to direct attacks or guards and see wounds more clearly. Read the highlighted target and your position rather than treating the mode as a command that automatically hits every damaged body part.
Use the Focus Strike for your weapon
Each weapon has its own Focus Strike. Check the named action and your platform's binding before following another weapon's demonstration. For an illustrative practice step, identify a wound, line up the relevant strike and observe whether the intended body part receives the action.
Reassess after the wound is destroyed
The publisher describes wound destruction and a flinch as part of the interaction. Once the target changes, a missing highlight is not automatically a camera fault. Recheck what wounds or weak points are actually available and choose the next attack from that state. Coordinate the next opening with the party rather than expecting an unchanged target to last indefinitely.
When your plan breaks
| What happens | What to change |
|---|---|
| Entering Focus Mode did not perform the special attack | Distinguish the aiming mode from the weapon's Focus Strike action. |
| A demonstration's input does not match my weapon | Check the weapon-specific move and current binding. |
| The wound highlight disappeared after a successful strike | Inspect wound destruction and the monster's resulting state before diagnosing an interface failure. |
Quick answers
What should I watch when learning the interaction?
The highlighted body part, selected weapon action, hit and resulting wound state.
Is this a damage ranking for all weapons?
No. It explains the shared targeting idea; weapon-specific timing and damage need their own reference.
