No Man’s Sky overloaded upgrades: count the module family first

An empty technology slot does not mean you can keep adding the same upgrade family. The No Man’s Sky community reference limits same-family upgrade modules to three in technology slots. When an upgrade stack is overloaded, inspect the installed family before buying another slot.

Count the family, not just identical names

The reference notes that generated module names do not determine their stats. Read what system the module upgrades instead of assuming two differently named modules belong to unrelated families. Make a short list of the installed upgrades implicated by the warning.

Reduce the suspect stack and observe

The hazard-upgrade reference explicitly describes four or more same-type upgrades disabling that group until the count is reduced. Use the current interface’s removal or storage option and read its confirmation. Change one suspect module at a time, then check whether the overload warning clears.

Compare performance only after the warning clears

Illustrative decision: adding another module made the system look worse. First resolve the invalid stack; then compare the remaining modules using their displayed attributes. Expanding inventory or rearranging an overloaded group is not evidence that every installed bonus is active. Do not discard a valuable module before inspecting the available move or storage options.

Quick answers

Does a spare slot remove the family limit?

No. Space and a valid upgrade stack are separate checks.

Is this a universal rule for every technology blueprint?

No. It concerns upgrade modules; inspect special-system and blueprint rules separately.
