Path of Exile 2 unidentified gear: reveal it before judging the upgrade

An unidentified item has not yet revealed the information needed for a useful equipment comparison. A Scroll of Wisdom identifies it; the Hooded One can also provide an identification service when available. Identification reveals modifiers, but it is still your job to decide whether the item fits the build.

Confirm that unidentified status is the actual issue

Inspect the item label and description. If it is unidentified, do not compare its hidden modifiers with a fully revealed item as though both descriptions were complete.

Separate that from a visible equip requirement. After identification, read the item's current requirements and your character's state. A newly revealed item is not automatically a usable or desirable upgrade.

Use the identification action deliberately

For the PC Scroll of Wisdom workflow, the wiki's item description says to right-click the scroll and then left-click the unidentified item. Confirm that the selected item is the one you intend to reveal.

When the Hooded One's town service is available to your character, inspect that option as another way to identify items. Do not rely on an old hideout arrangement: the hideout reference notes that he can no longer be placed there, while identification remains available in towns.

Compare the revealed result with the slot's purpose

Suppose a promising-looking item drops but its useful modifiers are still hidden. Identify it first, then compare the qualities your build actually needs against the currently equipped item. Do not let its appearance substitute for reading the result.

Keep the decision focused: whether it can be equipped, whether its modifiers support the intended role, and what you would lose by replacing the current item. This guide is not a price check or a promise that identifying an item makes it valuable.
