PAYDAY 2 concealment versus Detection Risk: read the two numbers correctly

Concealment and Detection Risk point in opposite useful directions for a stealth loadout: higher concealment contributes to a lower Detection Risk. Inspect the combined loadout after a change. A well-concealed pistol does not cancel every other conspicuous item you carry.

Reviewed 2026-10-15 · Ordinary loadout and stealth diagnosis; heists, skills, perk decks and mods can alter conditions

Read the full loadout rather than one weapon

The cited player guide accounts for primary and secondary weapons, melee weapon, armor, skills and perk decks when discussing overall concealment. Inspect the resulting Detection Risk after assembling the setup.

If a copied loadout produces a different number on your account, compare every contributing slot and the selected skills. Matching the visible primary weapon alone does not reproduce the complete configuration.

Compare one equipment change at a time

Use the loadout screen as a controlled comparison: note Detection Risk, change the intended item or attachment, then inspect the result. This tells you whether the change actually served the stealth goal.

For example, a player equips a compact secondary but retains more conspicuous equipment elsewhere. The total can remain less favorable than expected. Review the largest remaining contribution before buying or repeatedly modifying another pistol.

Treat lower risk as more room to act, not permission to stand exposed

The player guide distinguishes casing from masked situations and explains that lower risk does not make the player undetectable. Position, distance and the current situation still matter.

Plan the next piece of cover and the action you need before entering a watched area. If you are detected, identify what saw you and what state you were in. Reducing the loadout number cannot replace understanding the heist's observation and alarm conditions.

A compact pistol did not reproduce a copied setupCompare the rest of the equipment, skills and perk deck, not just that weapon.
I was detected despite a low risk numberLow risk is not invisibility. Inspect the observer, position and casing or masked state.

Quick answers

Are concealment and Detection Risk the same stat?

No. Concealment contributes to the resulting risk; for stealth, higher concealment and lower Detection Risk are the useful directions.

Does a low number guarantee a stealth clear?

No. It does not remove observers or replace the heist's detection rules.

Loadout contributions and detection-state distinctions were checked against a player-authored Steam guide. The one-change comparison is original advice. Fixed risk thresholds, attachment rankings and an independently tested stealth build are not claimed.
