The Outlast Trials revive: bleeding out, dead teammate or solo respawn?
A teammate bleeding out and a teammate already dead need different rescue actions. The standard distinction is helping the downed player before death versus using a Syringe after death. In solo play, the item reference instead describes Respawn Pills that add trial respawns.
Reviewed 2026-10-15 · Ordinary trial rescue and item roles; modifiers, Amps and special programs can add exceptions
Read the teammate's state first
Approach and inspect the displayed state before choosing an inventory item. Original player explanations distinguish the ordinary help action for a player still bleeding out from the Syringe needed after death. A normal health item is not a substitute for identifying which rescue the situation requires.
Prepare the Syringe rescue in co-op
The item reference identifies Syringes in emergency glass cases and other documented item locations. Get the required item, approach the dead teammate and follow the current revive prompt. Check the immediate threat before committing to the interaction; repeating the same exposed approach does not make the rescue easier.
Keep solo Respawn Pills separate
The reference describes Respawn Pills as the solo replacement that adds available respawns for the trial. Do not apply a co-op Syringe search to the solo item system. For an illustrative preparation, identify the mode and item role before allocating inventory or planning how the next failure can be recovered.
When your plan breaks
| What happens | What to change |
|---|---|
| The player is still bleeding out | Use the appropriate immediate help interaction rather than assuming death has already occurred. |
| The teammate is dead and an ordinary heal does not return them | Check the co-op Syringe requirement and current revive prompt. |
| Solo item cases do not contain the expected co-op item | Check Respawn Pills and the solo respawn system. |
Quick answers
What matters before spending inventory space?
The trial mode and whether the item addresses health, a dead teammate or solo respawns.
Are fixed revive times and use counts universal?
Check the current program and modifiers. This guide does not prescribe one timer or assume every Amp behaves identically.
Sources & version notes
Item roles come from the community item reference and an original Steam player guide. The older guide is used for the state distinction, not current timers, rarity or location exclusivity.
