War Thunder vehicle research: check the rank gap before buying a boost

A large research-rank gap between the vehicle you use and the vehicle you research can reduce earned vehicle RP. Before judging a research session, check that pairing and the result breakdown. A stronger vehicle or a better-looking match score does not automatically make it an efficient research tool for every target.

Start with the selected target and the vehicle doing the work

Read the research target in the tree and the rank of the vehicle you are actually playing. The War Thunder economy reference describes penalties for researching with a vehicle of significantly higher or lower research rank.

Do not diagnose the session from the target alone. For example, a favorite high-rank vehicle may be comfortable to play while being a poor pairing for the lower-rank target currently selected. Check the applicable research range before changing the entire lineup.

Read the result breakdown instead of one headline number

The economy reference distinguishes vehicle RP and other progression and lists several inputs to earnings, including mode, activity, performance and victory or defeat. Compare like with like when evaluating two sessions.

Record the vehicle, target and relevant result entries. Changing vehicle, mode and target at once makes it hard to tell whether the difference came from the research pairing or the battle itself. A useful comparison changes one decision at a time.

Check what a boost changes before treating it as a solution

A talisman is described as an RP modifier, not a Silver Lion bonus. Other modifiers also have their own scope. Read the current vehicle and reward descriptions before assuming one upgrade solves every progression shortage.

First resolve a clearly unsuitable research pairing and identify the resource you want. This checklist does not require purchasing a premium vehicle, talisman or account. It also does not claim a universal best vehicle without considering the research target and the player's results.

Quick answers

Is the highest-rank vehicle always the fastest research choice?

No. Research-rank differences can impose a penalty, so inspect the target and applicable efficiency.

Does an RP improvement automatically improve every currency reward?

No. Read each modifier's scope and the separate result entries.
